Lines of Research

1. Derived Responding
We are testing different training procedures to develop novel (generative) verbal and nonverbal behavior in children. Current and recent topics  investigated include: Stimulus categorization, analogical reasoning, abstract stimulus control, compound stimulus control, derived intraverbals, and derived textual control.

2. Teaching Procedures
We are evaluating different methodologies to teach basic verbal operants and listener behavior. Current topics being investigated include: prompting procedures, location bias, video modeling, and control by motivating operations.

3. Behavioral Stereotypy
These studies are conducted in collaboration with Dr. Bill Ahearn and Kathy Clark at the New England Center for Children. We are testing different parameters of the Response Interruption and Redirection procedure (RIRD) to reduce vocal and motor stereotypy. Current topics being investigated include: the effects of different topographies of redirection, and the role of matched stimulation on the effectiveness of RIRD.

4. Applied Animal Behavior
We have started to explore some commonly used behavior analytic techniques to assess and train domesticated animals. Currently, we are testing different forms of preference assessements with dogs.
